When Mark isn’t organising races he’s taking part in them. From open water swimming to triathlons and obstacle course races, he can often be found chatting to participants about what it is that attracted them to an event, what the positives are and where improvements can be made.
In 2016, you’ll find Mark at Tough Guy ‘The Original’, The Breca Swim Run (competing with OCR World Champion, Jon Albon), Man vs Mountain, The Salty Sea Dog swims, and a host of other events.
It’s this level of genuine passion that helps to make Mark one of the most proficient and highly praised directors in the fitness event industry. If you see him at an event, say ‘hello’ – he’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
That’s Dean in the middle in red – ready to lead the elites at Bordon, 2015
After leaving 7 (PARA) RHA in 2005 Dean searched for a sport that challenged him through many disciplines. In 2010 he discovered Obstacle Racing and later became the Spartan Race Director for the UK and Canada.
“My aim in life is to get people out of their comfort zones and in to the unknown via exercise – and I think that’s exactly what a good race should do”.
Before joining Spartan, Dean took part (and still does) in a number of obstacle races, ultra marathons and other fitness events – an essential if Judgement Day is going to continue to push the boundaries and improve race on race.
Dean had this to say about the year ahead:
“2016 is going to be huge for us. New races, distances, obstacles and the introduction of our training camps in the later part of the year means a very busy but exciting time ahead. I’m already looking forward to the challenge…”
Dean is also hosting Color Vibe, a 5km fun run in major UK cities throughout 2016.

He received two commendations in Afghanistan for selfless commitment and bravery under fire whilst on operation Herrick 11, 2009-2010. He also served in Iraq from 2007-2008.
When he’s not coaching Gary loves to participate and 2015 saw him complete Man vs Mountain, Judgement Day Bordon and Pippingford Park as well as a 40 mile yomp across the lake district carrying 55lbs. In the coming year Gary will be taking part in The Nuts Challenge 4 laps, Dirty Dozen Races and looking to complete the double at Rat Race Dirty Weekend.
Away from OCR, Gary runs Elements Outdoor Military Fitness which has an abundance of talented obstacle course racers coming through the ranks.
Gary is an amazing technician. If you want to know how to climb or traverse a rope, get over a 10′ wall or across a set of monkey bars – he’s the man to ask!
Volunteer Co-Ordinator & Festival Manager
Adam’s first OCR was in 2011 and he was instantly hooked. When he isn’t participating he is marshalling. It was his passion for marshalling that brought him in to the JD family. Mark and Dean recognised his desire to make the JD marshalling experience the best in the OCR world perfectly complimented their passion for excellence.
Adam faces a new challenge in 2016 becoming a father for the first time. He is already planning to redesign the garden to make a baby OCR course to start his child out early. Otherwise you’ll find him either in the mud or beside it.
